Misbahah

Made of bullets fired during target practice, this string of beads combines torn pieces of metal, creating a wounding misbahah or rosary (nos. 55-56). Like other appurtenances, prayer beads are associated with religious and cultural rituals and usually have a long tradition of handicraft and local history. Some are passed down through the generations; others are kept in collections. While they originally serve as a symbolic memento mori for God’s wisdom, the string of beads here is intended to recall pain and loss.
