The Garden

A type of visual comedy, The Garden shows the artist dressed up as a fat man dancing, but with clumsy movements. He attempts to imitate a ballerina who moves like a marionette, amusing us with his failures. Every now and then he rests on a stage that is too small, making him look even more ridiculous.

The random laughter turns the viewer into a partner in this act of mockery. The artist assumes the role of court jester, whose function is to amuse the viewers, but also to warn against what the future holds. He is supposed to look silly, so that we, the viewers, may feel clever. At the same time, he sings and makes us doubtful: ‘There’s no reason to believe me / One can hardly see a thing…’.
