Caretakers

This video features the artist’s friends and family, reflecting an existential anxiety of losing a loved one. They are seen calling each other, identifying one another, happy to encounter a familiar face. The joy of discovery reinforces the sense of anxiety, raising the question: are these the few survivors of an apocalypse?

The figures stand on fictional islands that float on a sea into which two suns set. One can barely move on them, let alone desert them. Even the slightest movement of the body threatens their stability. Despite the narrow space and the dangerous conditions, however, the islands’ inhabitants communicate with one another, each in their own unique way. They wave and smile, hoping for a response. Some of them use binoculars or a telescope, seeking additional, more distant signs of life, but the horizon is clear, and it is hard to tell what lies there.
